Abstract

  • In the month March 2015 the second city in the province of Papua CPI recorded an index number of different changes. Jayapura city experienced a 0.71 percent inflation in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) 120.49 while experiencing deflation Merauke District -1.03 percent with CPI of 123.59.
  • Of the 82 cities CPI recorded 54 cities experienced inflation (including the city of Jayapura) and 28 cities experienced deflation (including Merauke). The highest inflation was in Manokwari 0.84 percent and the lowest occurred in the city of Padang and Cilacap respectively by 0.01 percent. The highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandang -1.97 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Medan, Padang Sidimpuan and Tarakan City respectively -0.01 percent. Jayapura city ranked fifth at the national level and finished fourth at the Sumapua (Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua). While Merauke ranks 81st on the national level and the order of 18 at level Sumapua.
  • Monthly inflation in Jayapura by 0.71 percent, higher than the national inflation rate of 0.17 percent. While monthly inflation at -1.03 percent Merauke Regency, lower than the national inflation. The inflation rate of the calendar year (January - March) Jayapura City of 0.24 percent, higher than the national monthly inflation rate of 0.44 percent. While the rate of inflation at -0.25 percent Merauke Regency, lower than the national rate of inflation. The inflation rate year on year (March 2015 to March 2014) amounted to 5.99 percent of Jayapura City, lower than the year on year inflation rate of 6.38 percent nationwide. While the year on year inflation Merauke District of 9.25 percent, higher than the national inflation year on year.
  • Inflation in Jayapura in March 2015 is due to the rising prices of goods and services indicated by the increase in the index of expenditure groups: foodstuffs at 1.33 percent; food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco, 0.56 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.81 percent; health group 0.21 percent; education, recreation and sport 0.03 percent and in the transport, communication and financial services 0.48 percent. While the decline in the clothing category index number is -0.34 percent. Deflation in Merauke in March 2015 due to decreased prices of goods and services indicated by a decrease in the index of expenditure groups: foodstuffs -3.45 percent and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuels -0.03 percent. While the increased index figures are processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco, 0.63 percent; clothing group 0.10 percent; education, recreation and sport 0.01 percent and in the transport, communication and financial services 0.85 percent and health groups did not change the index number.
