Human development is a process of expanding people's choices. However, at all levels of development, there are three fundamental choices: to live a long and healthy life, to acquire education, and to have access to the resources needed for a decent standard of living. The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite index that measures human development based on four indicators: life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling, and per capita expenditure.
