Abstract

In March 2019, the level of inequality in expenditure of the population of Papua Province as measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.394. This figure decreased by 0.004 points when compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.398. Meanwhile, when compared with the March 2018 Gini Ratio which amounted to 0.369, it rose by 0.025 points.
The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2019 was recorded at 0.297, up compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.294 and down when compared to the March 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.312. Meanwhile, the Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2019 was recorded at 0.409, an increase compared to the March 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.384 and down when compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.416.
In March 2019, the distribution of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent was 15.35 percent. This means that population expenditure is in the category of moderate inequality. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure is 21.63 percent, which means it is in the low inequality category. While for rural areas, the figure was 15.37 percent, which means it was included in the category of moderate inequality.
