From 82 city CPI recorded 78 cities suffered inflation and four (4) other cities suffered deflation (including the city of Jayapura and Merauke). The highest inflation happened at Tanjungpandan of 2.34 percent and the lowest inflation occurs in Gorontalo of 0.06 percent. While the biggest deflation occurred in Jayapura of 1.10 percent and the deflation of the smallest occurred in Maumere of 0.05 percent. Jayapura ranks lowest in both the national level (82/82) as well as at the level of Sulampua (18/18) (Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua). While the Merauke ranked-80 at the national level and no. 17 at the level of Sulampua.

Deflation in the town of Jayapura in July 2016 happened due to decrease in prices of goods and services indicated by the decrease in the index in the Group of expenditure: group transport, communication and financial services-5.27 percent; groups of foodstuffs-0.37 percent and the group health-0.17 percent. While the Group's spending increase was the group housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.47 percent; food group so, drinks, cigarette and tobacco 0.19 percent; the Group obtained 0.10 percent; as well as the Group of education, recreation and sports 0.01 percent. Deflation in Merauke in July 2016 happened due to decrease in prices of goods and services indicated by the decrease in the index in the Group of expenditure: group transport, communication and financial services-1.65 percent; groceries-0.36 percent; and food group so, drinks, cigarette and tobacco-0.03 percent. While the Group's spending increase was ang group health 1.58 percent; 1.34 percent and clothing group group group housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 0.28 percent as well as educational, recreational and sporting index numbers unchanged.
